Home Design Trend – Curve Appeal

Professionals Armidale Home Design Trends | Local News 24th November, 2022 No Comments

2022 has seen a fall in the sharp geometric and angular shapes that have been popular in years gone by. Instead, we’re seeing softer lines and curves in furniture, lighting, decor, patterns and architecture.

Soft lines, arcs and curves are now a staple in many furniture and home decor retail collections. This trend seemed to emerge during the pandemic and has more than survived, it has thrived. Curves and rounded edges feel immediately softer, and more romantic and give the room a more feminine touch.

Rounded furniture, such as curved sofas and soft-edged tables, have made a comeback with reimagined contemporary lines. Curved mirrors and soft rounded tiles and wallpaper patterns bring a romantic and soft feeling to our interiors.

“I cannot get enough of curved furniture and details. Curves add instant personality to parts of the home that need sprucing up. Bland living room? Try a curved sofa. Basic room? Add an arched plant wall.” – @schereleimpapier

Design trends come and go and repeat. However, this design trend will be around for a while as humanity continues to look for meaningful connections and make our humble abodes somewhere to relax and unwind. Curves connect us to our environment and nature.

So do curves suit all homes? Generally speaking, curves in architecture and interior styling suit the majority of homes. Whether it be curves and arches used in contemporary applications of interior architecture, curvacious furniture or simple styling touches.

Curves can also be practical in home design. They draw our attention to a focal point within the space. In particular, curved furniture can be beneficial in small spaces as it helps to add the illusion of depth and movement. Round coffee and side tables, mirrors, decor items and even round rugs can all help to maximise the illusion. Curves in any space can help to create a sense of balance in a linear space.

“Too much of anything is bad” and this includes curves. When curves are balanced with linear spaces and straight lines, they have more of an impact. It’s all about balance. Think about where you want the most focus in a space. This will help you when planning your curved accents. Keep in mind, that curves cost more due to the time it takes to create them. However, the impact they can have on a space is definitely worth the expense.
